Tear Soup

Last night's event went well. Thank you all for praying. The chocolate hazelnut crescents were a hit along with desserts the other moms brought. You really ought to try them. One person brought an ice cream cake made with ice cream sandwiches. Yum! Quite clever, too. :-)

I sat with one other waiting mom and a bunch of birth moms. For a change, they were all very chatty, which was nice. There is nothing worse than sitting with people who don't want to talk or don't know what to say. All of these birth moms are planning to parent their babies, so there weren't really any adoption connections made. That's okay, though. It was still a very nice night.

Anywho, dinner was good. Dessert was better. Group was awesome! Have I told you that I. love. groups? I do! Maybe I'll open a Christian women's center for groups someday. Who knows. There is just something unique and life-changing that God is able to do when two or more are gathered...

I think He orchestrated it, too. Well, I mean, of course He orchestrated it. He orchestrates everything. It is just that I really think He orchestrated this one for me. :-) The group leader started out by having us all go around the room, introduce ourselves, and tell what our favorite soup is. Earlier, during dinner, there were instructions on each table for us to take a note card and write down our favorite soup and the five ingredients needed to make it. Of course, I should have realized there was a reason for this, but I didn't. I must have been off in la-la land somewhere. ;-) So, we all did our introductions, and the leader proceeded to introduce a book that she was going to have one of her colleagues read. It was called Tear Soup, and of course now, my bank account is $16.43 lower because the first thing I did when I got home last night was head to barnesandnoble.com. LOL! It was a really neat book, and a lot of things stood out to me. The topic of the night was grief, and that is what I mean when I said that He orchestrated the group for me. Grief is the topic of the group proposal I am preparing for the intensive class I finished the other week. It's not only that the information was helpful to me, although it was. It is also that it was interesting for me to sit in a group about grief and just take it all in. Watching people. Experiencing my own emotions. Seeing what it was like for all of us who are experiencing (or have experienced) grief in our own individual ways. We all do, ya know. Experience grief, that is. In one way or another. Even Jesus grieved. I remember when I spent all of the other week with a wonderful group of ladies in class that one of them observed in me that I am really grieving. About adoption. About infertility. About our struggle to become parents. About my struggle to become a mother. I can tell you that, right? It doesn't have to be a secret since you don't know her and what she said was about me, anyway. I digress. Back to the exercise. After the leader's colleague read the book, several people shared again their favorite kind of soup and related how the ingredients needed to make it resemble the ingredients that have formed their tear soup. Their grief. Of course, several people had a heads up on this exercise, and so they were prepared to share. That's not usually how a group plays out, but it worked, given the assortment of people at this group. I thought it was all really well done. I didn't share at all last night, though. I don't think it would have really been appropriate given my role as a waiting mom. Plus, I guarantee that I would have started crying, and that is the last thing I wanted to do. I was definitely the crier (cryer?) in my class group, that is for sure. I did really like the book, though, and I intend to use it (and the exercise) in my proposal. Goodness, I better stop finding books to use or my bank account is going to be drained. This is the second book I have purchased in the last week!

I could go on, but I think you get the picture. Nice dinner. Nice conversation. Nice night. Helpful information.

Maybe someday, I'll share my favorite soup and its ingredients.

What's your favorite kind of soup? What are the ingredients? :-)
