People come... and people go...

but God is always faithful!

I just have to share this story with you. It doesn't necessarily change anything within our adoption process plans, but it did, if nothing else, reassure me that God is with us and is in this process.

D.T. and I went home for lunch today, like we do pretty much every other day. After eating and playing with the dogs a little, we picked up our stuff and headed out to come back to work. On the way out, I noticed an envelope from XYZ adoption agency sitting on the table by the door and remembered that we had inquired about them a bunch of months ago. I knew something had come in the mail from them sometime recently, but I hadn't thought much of it and hadn't opened it. I grabbed the envelope, and we headed on our merry way.

In the car, I said to D.T. "We should call them and ask how much it would cost to get on their waiting list, too."

Then, I took out my cell phone and started to dial. Now, I have absolutely no idea what in the world possessed me to do that because I'm more of a procrastinator than a I'll get right on that kind of girl. Either way, though, I called.

Conversation with XYZ agency...

Agency: Hello, this is XYZ agency. How may I direct your call?

Me: Hello, my name is C.C. [I never tell the person on the other end of the phone who I am]

Agency: C.C.??? This is [insert not very common first name]...

Me (unequivocally recognizing voice on the other end of the line): [insert last name of not very common first name]??? You have got to be kidding me!!!! Is it really you??? What are you doing there?

Ok, so the voice on the other end of the line?

That was a young woman who I worked with for a few years several years ago. For an entire year of that time, we sat not more than 10 feet away from each other. Then, she moved an hour away and I haven't heard from her since then.

Calling XYZ agency, I didn't really expect to get much information. I'm used to places telling you just enough to reel you in or to get you off the phone, and I usually go in to conversations with that expectation in mind. I know, I know. I'm a pessimist, but shhhhh.... don't tell my mom. ;-) I was so pleasantly surprised, though, to find someone I knew and trusted, who I was certain would tell me everything I needed to know and would tell me the truth.

We had a lovely conversation, and I was reassured that, while we may or may not do anything with the information we got, Emmanuel is with us and that He cares enough to show it in unexpected ways.

I was really needing to know that right about now.

Amazing!
