Wordful Wednesday ~ my altars...

Only be careful, and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them slip from your heart as long as you live. Teach them to your children and to their children after them.

The Bible tells us that we should be careful to remember the things God has taught us and the times He has spoken to us.

The picture above is of two objects which sit on my windowsill at work to remind me of times that God has spoken to me. The teapot on the right was given to me by a friend and mentor and it reminds me of how God has used that person in my life to stretch me in my faith.

The clock on the left reminds me of the time God spoke to me about my need to surrender myself to the FREEDOM He offers me! If you like, you can read about that here and here. The clock itself no longer works, so I keep it set to just before midnight to remind me that the LORD could return at any time, and I need to be ready!

I would encourage each of you to set up memorials or altars of the times God has spoken to you. It is important to pass on those times and truths to our children. I know that is what I want to do... :-) What a legacy!

Awesome. It does help to have those sort of reminders sometimes. I think I'll do something like that.
In our premarital counseling, our mentor/teacher told us that the one thing he wishes he would have done with his kids growing up (and advised us to do) was to have a set place where we could "meet" God...an alter type thing. He said this would create a place where we all could go, a sorta holy place, to meet God together or alone. Of course we can meet God anywhere and talk to Him anytime but creating a special place to go is something people (Christians at least) don't do. SO once we have our own place, I'm going to build a prayer garden. I'm super excited!
But for now in our little apartment...I think I'll do something like you've done. That's a great idea. Thanks!
Blessings.

What a neat idea. Thanks for sharing.. In my own life too often I forget about all the things God does for me.

What a sweet idea CC. I guess the reminders that I will have are my words and dreams recorded on paper.

Have a blessed evening!

Sorry I haven't been by in awhile. It's crazy for me to try and write a post and follow lot's of people.

I love it, but I can't have fun all the time, pooh!

I enjoyed your altars of times when God spoke to you. It is good to keep reminders around us.

Have a fun weekend,
